Joining our friendly and hard-working Travis Perkins family as an experienced Transport Manager/Supervisor, the successful candidate would lead a team of 12 drivers, all responsible for ensuring stock is moved efficiently and safely from our branch.  You’ll make sure we deliver our products on time, in full, every time to local customers that expect the best from one of the largest suppliers of building materials. It means keeping a close eye on costs, resources, and efficiency. In short, making sure everything runs like clockwork.

Our Stratford branch is less than 2 years old and was completely re-fitted prior to launch, so not only will you be joining a top team, the branch looks great too! We run a fleet of 9 vehicles out of our merchanting operation, and 3 vehicles out of our tool hire business - so expect variety. 95% of our business is delivered, so our Transport Manager/Supervisor is critical to the ongoing success of our operation.

What will I be doing?

No one day is the same as the next in TP branch life, but here are a few pointers:
  • Responsible for the compliance and efficient management of the branch transport operation and the improvement of driver standards
  • Responsible for ensuring full compliance for vehicles and drivers, the reporting and management of accidents
  • Meeting agreed Transport/Fleet targets - utilisation and capacity targets
  • Planning / routing deliveries
  • You’ll be a true leader, capable of developing and motivating your direct reports
  • You’ll need to coach your team and make sure they provide a first‐class, professional service
  • Safety is at the forefront of everything we do, your aim will be to ensure that our standards never slip, by adhering to all stay safe policies and procedures.  Including checking that Drivers comply with the law and that vehicles are inspected in line with company and governing body procedures
  • Be responsible for the success of a vital area of our business
  • Working with the whole branch team to ensure great customer service is achieved.
  • Playing a key part in stock management including goods in and out, and stock take.
What experience do you need?

To succeed, you’ll need to be the kind of colleague who:
  • Proven experience of managing a small transport fleet
  • Creates high‐performing, engaged and motivated teams  
  • Advantageous to have an understanding of CPC driver modules  
  • Along with having the ability to provide great customer service and have experience in a similar role, we can teach you the rest.
