Cyber Security Apprenticeship

We are growing our Group Technology Services team and have an exciting new opportunity for a Degree Apprentice to join us! 

We have partnered with Cranfield University to offer a BSc Honours Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Degree Apprenticeship and we are looking for our next degree apprentice to join the team this September. 

The Apprenticeship programme will be delivered over 3.5 years and will allow you to gain skills, knowledge and behaviours relating to digital and technology strategies, with a specialism in Cyber Security. Along the way, you will be supported by a specialist Apprenticeship Coach from the University, as well as a Mentor from Travis Perkins who will ensure you get the best opportunities to put your new learning into practice.

What will I be doing?

As a Degree Apprentice, we are keen to give you exposure across multiple areas to help you decide which direction you would like to take your future career. You’ll spend some time with our Security Operations Analysts who are responsible for the day to day operations of the Security Operations Centre and ensuring that our ‘cyber risk’ is mitigated appropriately. Within this team, you can expect to get involved in:

• Configuring vulnerability scans to test to vulnerability of the systems we use across the Travis Perkins Group

• Working with specialists to arrange penetration tests which will identify any weaknesses within our systems that hackers may be able to take advantage of.

• Investigating any Information Security Incidents that are reported to the team

• Assist in researching and generating reports and information gathering for any audits.

You will also spend time with our Governance, Risk and Compliance Team to effectively identify, manage and treat risks within the Travis Perkins Group. Within this role you will:

• Ensure the Information Security Management System is kept updated

• Manage risk registers for the Group Technology Services Team so we can identify any 

risks and plan the action we may take should they arise.

• Support the team to organise simulation activities that will test our response capabilities when risks arise.

As you work through your apprenticeship programme, you’ll gain more knowledge and skills within this area, allowing you to take on more responsibility within the team.

You don’t need any previous work experience to be considered for this opportunity but for the best chance of securing yourself the role, you’ll need to be driven and motivated to grow your career within a technical role. On top of this, you will need:

• Maths and English GCSEs graded C or above, or equivalent

• A-Level qualification graded C or above, or equivalent in a STEM focused subject area

• The ability to communicate well as part of a team

• A passion for problem solving

• A can do attitude 

• Great attention to detail
