About Us
BSS is the UK’s largest leading distributor of pipeline and heating solutions. We provide bespoke solutions to customers including products, specifications, technical support and aftersales care. TF Solutions is a supplier of RACHP (refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump) solutions with a growing network of 16 branches. Due to the synergies between both businesses, the Commercial Trading Director will oversee responsibility for both BSS and TF Solutions commercial success.
The Role
As the Commercial Trading Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our commercial strategy. You will be responsible for developing and implementing commercial and pricing strategies to drive business growth and maximise profitability. As a key member of the BSS & TF Solutions SLT (Senior Leadership Team), you will influence overall business direction, ensuring strategic goals are met while fostering collaboration across our merchanting businesses and leveraging scale.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Growth – Develop and implement innovative commercial strategies that align with business goals, identify new opportunities, and mitigate risks.
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement – Build strong relationships with suppliers, sales teams, and branches to drive collaboration and maximise growth potential. You’ll also work closely with other Commercial Trading Directors across the Travis Perkins plc group to foster a collaborative environment.
Category & Proposition Management – Oversee category strategies, pricing, and product development, ensuring we remain competitive and meet customer needs. You will develop BSS’s own brand products including sourcing, technical, quality, pricing and legal compliance. You will be mindful of our customers' current and future needs.
Data-Driven Decision Making – Leverage insights, market trends, and analytics to drive performance improvements and optimise profitability. You will own all product data and be responsible for analysing threats, opportunities, industry trends and areas for growth.
Health, Safety & Wellbeing – Champion and develop a strong health and safety culture across all locations in partnership with the SLT.
Drive Performance – Working with direct and indirect reports, you’ll create and develop a culture of high performance which in turn impacts results.
What We’re Looking For
The Commercial Trading Director is a key role to ensure the success of two thriving brands in the Travis Perkins plc group. You’ll have worked in a similar role before, preferably in a forward-thinking merchant environment or retail environment and be able to demonstrate:
Success – You’ll have proven record of developing and implementing commercial strategies which have accelerated sustainable growth
Board Experience - You’ll have experience of sitting on a board, either part of a group or individual business
Leadership - You’ll be a natural, influential leader with a “can-do” attitude and have a track record of developing teams of people, both direct and indirect
Relationships - You’ll have a reputation for forging strong relationships with stakeholders, customers and suppliers to collaborate and influence our business growth
Commercial Acumen - You’ll have unrivalled commercial, business and financial acumen which allows you to define, develop and implement a successful commercial strategy
Innovative - You’ll be an “outside the box thinker”, bringing new ideas to the table whilst encouraging your team to do the same and challenge the norm to create stronger outcomes
