Family-leave policies for moments that matter
Within the Travis Perkins Group, we have a proud history of upholding our family values; one of the most recognised and strongest-felt aspects of our culture. We know that life can have its challenges, so our values and approach to wellbeing extends far beyond working hours as we endeavour to accommodate and support our colleagues when needed. This might be in the shape of more flexible ways of working or providing leave for significant life events. We aren’t perfect, but we’re on a journey to evolving our culture across all our businesses to ensure that we’re a truly inclusive and family-friendly employer.
With this in mind, we have developed new family leave policies. These are really progressive, speak better to our values, are more inclusive, and most importantly recognise and support our people through the challenges experienced through life. Find out more about our new policies here:
Our new Family-Leave policies for moments that matter
Regarding our new policies, our Chief HR Officer, Emma Rose, said: “As a Group we have a clear ambition to be an inclusive, diverse and equality driven employer, which reflects the wide-ranging communities we serve. Our new Family Leave policies are the result of a colleague-led diversity initiative, which reflects the passion, energy and determination our colleagues have for modernising our business, so we make this Group a better and more inclusive place to work.”
We have therefore started to roll out the following policies in our businesses:
Maternity Pay
- 26 weeks full pay
- Followed by 13 weeks of statutory pay
Paternity Pay
- 2 weeks full paid leave
New Parents Leave
- 5 days additional annual leave for both new parents for the two years following the child's birth
Miscarriage
- 2 weeks full paid leave
- 2 days paid leave for affected partners
IVF Support
- 2 days paid leave per IVF cycle
Adoption & Surrogacy Pay
- 26 weeks full pay, followed by 13 weeks statutory
Hear it from our people
We asked our colleagues for feedback on the impact of our new family leave policies at crucial times in their lives, here are some of their responses:
“The IVF and adoption policy is so supportive; I know of people going through this and to have that support is amazing for them.”
"The two weeks paid leave I got at home was a real game changer for us. With my wife having had a C-Section, the extra time I had at home to really focus on her and her recovery was brilliant and really made all the difference. The extra time I spent with my little one was also brilliant; it was amazing to get to know my little boy when he was first born, and those first few weeks were magical.”
“I cannot express how much the improved maternity pay has benefited me and my family. I was so poorly after my C-Section that I got admitted to hospital for surgery 3 weeks later. Due to Covid, my baby couldn't stay with me, I was also too poorly to look after him. The increased pay has meant I can fully recover and spend valuable bonding time with my baby without having to worry about paying the bills!”
