Are you operationally focused, like working in a team and have a thirst for learning and looking for a long term career? Then look no further! We are recruiting for an Operations Manager covering 20 Keyline branches across the south of the UK from Northampton to Ashford in Kent, across to cover 3 branches in Wales and down to our furthest branch in Bodmin in Cornwall.

We are looking for a person located centrally to cover this region. This position will occasionally require overnight stays away from home.

Keyline, part of the Travis Perkins Group, is the UK's leading supplier of civils, drainage and heavy building materials.

Working hours will be Monday to Friday 8.00am - 5.00pm, our customers don't work weekends so neither do we!

What is in it for you?

  • Competitive salary plus an annual bonus
  • Car Allowance
  • Contributory pension, private healthcare, life assurance, sharesave scheme, group wide colleague discounts across the Travis Perkins Group, including Toolstation.
  • Plus we have a number of online discounts at leading retailers from airport parking to theme parks to eating out and cinemas.

What will I be doing?

No one day is the same as the next in a Keyline branch life, but here are a few pointers:

  • Promoting Safety: Help improve safety culture, support leaders in understanding safety needs, and contribute to safety forums.
  •  Assist in creating and delivering company-wide safety initiatives and provide expertise to identify risks and reduce incidents.
  • Investigating Incidents: Support reviews of workplace accidents and incidents, identify trends, and address root causes. Work with teams to create safer environments and improve practices.
  • Managing Projects: Help deliver key business projects like introducing new equipment or fuels. Plan and oversee projects, ensuring they meet business needs, budgets, and deadlines.
  • Ensuring Compliance: Monitor operational compliance (e.g., fire safety, ISO standards) and identify gaps.
  • Provide data and guidance to regional managers and help implement and review compliance processes.
  • Property and Investment: Support regional directors with property projects like new branches, site improvements, or closures. Coordinate work, manage budgets, and ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • Understanding the Business: Contribute to company plans, compare performance with competitors, and suggest operational improvements. Help with expansion and deliver initiatives to enhance efficiency.
  • Training and Development: Work with training teams to create materials for branch staff, ensuring they’re practical and relevant. Support regional teams in delivering training and improving content.
  • Improving Processes: Develop and update operational procedures, ensuring they’re well-communicated and followed (e.g., Covid protocols, weather guidance).
  • Supporting People: Assist with colleague wellbeing and manage processes for issues like grievances and disciplinary cases.
  • What experience do you need?
  • Previous experience within a builders’ merchant or civils is advantageous, but not essential. It doesn't matter what sector you come from, we just need transferable skills such as leadership, operational management, health and safety and great customer service.
