BSS National Distribution Centre, Magna Park
In the heart of Lutterworth, Magna Park is an expansive warehousing and logistics centre and our BSS distribution site measures a whopping 160,000 square feet within it. Here, BSS stock over 17,000 different product lines in all manner of plumbing and heating fittings from boilers to flanges.
If you’re living near Rugby, Coventry or Leicester, and you’re looking for your next job opportunity, here’s why you should consider working at BSS in Magna Park:
BSS Magna Park is home to over 130 colleagues covering a range of roles including Warehouse Operatives and Supervisors, Operations Managers, Hire Service Engineers, Administrators, Stock Controllers, and Inventory Planners. There are approximately 40 operational colleagues working on each shift (plus office and support colleagues).
The site operates 24 hours a day, Monday to Friday, so our colleagues, like our customers, get their weekends to themselves. The main daily shift patterns are:
- 06:00 to 14:00
- 12:00 to 20:00;
- 14:00 to 22:00
- 22:00 to 06:00
However, we also embrace flexibility and have a number of colleagues that work between these shifts or part-time
Our warehouse colleagues are responsible for, on average, picking 6,000 orders and delivering them to our branches across England, Scotland and Wales each day. The work with various types of material-handling equipment (MHE), including hand pallet trucks, powered pallet trucks (PPTs), low-level order pickers (LLOP), reach trucks, counterbalance trucks and VNAs (very narrow aisle).
BSS are proud to operate a lithium-ion MHE fleet which allows us to charge the forklift trucks, eliminating battery-changing and reducing carbon emissions.
We also operate a small workshop where our Hire Service Engineers use all manner of hand tools, testing and calibration equipment to service and maintain the equipment our customers can hire from us.
Our recently renovated onsite canteen povides a rest haven during break periods, with access to a TV, microwave, snack vending machine, water cooler and unlimited hot drinks. Plus a food van visits our site daily selling a range of drinks, snacks, fresh sandwiches, pasties, salads and hot food.
Colleagues are allocated a locker to keep their possessions secure during their time on site, and as part of our investment in colleague well-beingwe have plans to create an on-site well-being room.
Our social and charity committees arrange activities to support our nominated charity partner, Mind - the Mental Health Charity but also to have some fun including ‘Soak the Manager’, fancy dress competitions, quizzes and sweepstakes.
We also hold events, both on-site and externally (from Christmas dinner in our warehouse to clay pigeon shooting, bottomless brunches and bowling) to recognise hard work, achievements and celebrate success.
And during a heatwave, we are known for our love of ice creams!
We have been utilising an initiative called Pooling of Resource (POR) where we train warehouse colleagues to be able to work in other departments. This has enabled us to not only cover holidays, sickness & absence but allows colleagues to develop new skills and gain experience. This includes HGV drivers, Hire Service Engineers, Engineering Technicians and Warehouse Operatives.
We have also launched our own DC Safety Forum where managers and colleague representatives meet each month to discuss all things health and safety, taking a proactive approach to colleague wellbeing on site.
Magna Park is located close to Lutterworth between Rugby, Coventry, and Leicester. It is easily accessible from major roads including the M1, M6 and M69.
Whilst travel by car is the easiest method of transport, Magna Park also benefits from regular bus services from across the local area, operated by Arriva. Additionally, GLP, the owner of Magna Park, has partnered with Liftshare to offer a free Liftshare scheme to all park employees; supporting key workers to access the park with ease, save commuting costs and travel sustainably.
