Our Level 2 Apprenticeships at Travis Perkins plc are designed for colleagues new to the industry or business to develop your industry understanding, and help you learn about our products and how to build great relationships with our customers.

What is the Level 2 Driver Apprenticeship?

The Level 2 Driver Apprenticeship programme is perfect if you are looking to be upskilled into a Driver role. Spanning over 12 to 15 months, the programme will enable you to secure a Category C Driving License and get you on the road. 

In this programme, you will spend time shadowing an experienced Driver. This allows you to pick up on their skills and behaviours. 

You’ll get first-hand experience on how our Drivers interact with our customers, stay safe on the road and maintain professionalism. 

Who is the Level 2 Driver Apprenticeship for? 

Before you apply, here is our entry criteria for the Level 2 Driver Apprenticeship: 

• You must have held a UK Driving License for 12 months or more. 
• You must be a full-time employee to be eligible for this programme.
• If you already hold a Category C Driving Licence - you are not eligible to apply. 
• If you are already enrolled in an apprenticeship or any formal training, you must complete your current programme before starting a new one.

What is the Level 3 Transport Leader Apprenticeship?

The Level 2 Apprenticeship will help to lay the foundation for a successful Driving career but if you want to progress further you can think about enhancing your capabilities with the Level 3 Transport Leader Apprenticeship. 

This programme spans over 12 to 15 months and is equivalent to 2.5 A-Levels! It will equip you with the skills, knowledge and behaviours to manage a transport operation. 

The Apprenticeship covers topics including:

• Team management principles 
• Leadership techniques
• Performance management 
• Human resources and legal requirements
• Operational and project management 
• Financial management 
• Regulatory transport compliance

You will also be training for the Transport Manager’s Certificate in Professional Competence over the duration of the programme.

Darren Gillard had 22 years of experience as a Retail Manager and embarked on a significant career change journey with the support of the Travis Perkins Group’s Driving Apprenticeship programme. 

Seeking a fresh challenge and more suitable hours as his children grew older, Darren embraced the opportunity to become a trainee HGV driver. 

During his training, a Transport Manager vacancy arose at his branch, and his Branch Manager recognised his potential due to his previous managerial experience. 

Committed to both his Apprenticeship and the new role, Darren excelled, passing his theory and Class 2 practical test on the first attempt. As a result, he now holds the position of Transport Manager at the branch while also serving as an HGV driver, benefiting from acquired skills and future growth opportunities.
