David is a fully qualified HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) driver and has been with Keyline Civils Specialist since before it even became part of the Travis Perkins Group. Keyline are the largest supplier of specialist civils and drainage solutions, and specialist rail and utilities materials in the UK, and we rely on dedicated colleagues like David to help our business keep moving.

‘The Warehouse to Wheels scheme helped me realise I wanted a career in driving’
‘I started working in the yard at Keyline and when I was offered a place on the Warehouse to Wheels scheme I jumped at the opportunity. The scheme gave me the chance to become a fully qualified LGV (Large Goods Vehicle) driver and gain experience on days when our full-time drivers were not available. It also helped me realise that I wanted to make career out of driving, so as soon as a full-time job opened up, I submitted my application.’
‘The team are one of the best things about coming into work’
Our drivers are responsible for planning logistics, meaning every day is different. Typically, David’s day starts with him arriving on site at 06:05 and after he has collected his keys and carried out his daily checks, he chooses his route. He endeavours to plan his route so that he can take his break back at the yard to spend some time with the team, which in his words is ‘one of the best things about coming into work’. We are striving to become a more inclusive employer and are proud to establish diverse and welcoming teams within our Group.
‘Regular working hours ensures I get to spend time with my family’
We also ensure all our drivers have a good work/life balance, so once David’s work is complete and his end-of-day checks are carried out, he normally sets off home around 16:00; just one of the many reasons to drive for a living within the Travis Perkins Group. ‘When I’m not working, my young son keeps me on my toes! I’m grateful for regular working hours at Keyline which means that I can spend more time with my family and as an Everton fan, I try to catch as many games as I can.’ Upholding family values underpins our business and is what makes our Group different.
