Case study: Louise Charlton, Kitchen Designer
Louise has been designing kitchens for over 10 years now but recently brought her career to Benchmarx – a company in the Travis Perkins Group. She’s learnt a lot about the kitchen and joinery trade in these years and credits her time stacking shelves for enabling her to work on a project from start to finish and understand kitchens from a Joiners point of view. Louise brought her enthusiasm for kitchen designing and her unique perspective to Benchmarx when an opportunity came up in our Glasgow branch. Read about her experience relocating to Scotland and why she loves being a part of the Benchmarx team:
“I get to use my passion for design and creativity”
Louise tells us that she finds it really rewarding to design kitchens because she feels a part of a journey and gets to see her ideas brought to life in people’s homes. She loves the moment when the finished design is unveiled and she can appreciate how unique each kitchen is from the last. But for Louise, there is nothing better than receiving a thank you card from the customers and watching them lay their eyes on their new kitchen for the first time.
“I don't think the word 'typical' can ever be used to describe our team here”
Louise finds herself very lucky to have a job with a lot of variety from day to day, yet it always starts with a cup of tea – white, no sugar - and a good catch up with her colleagues. As for the rest of the day, one moment she will be running home measures, the next she’ll be back in-store delivering a presentation to new customers or having very entertaining chats with the Joiners. And if that wasn’t enough variety, she’ll even get to put on her hard hat and safety boots when she makes on-site visits.
“Where I am new to Scotland, I love to explore new places and I am spoilt for choice”
When she isn’t at work Louise is exploring her new home and praises her team for always pointing her in the direction of a new place to explore. She also loves to cook up lots of baked goods in her own kitchen. And, Louise says there’s always some time to pop back down to the south of England to visit her family and spend time with her nieces.
“We're never short of a laugh and a box of chocolates in our branch”
Louise paints a really fun and positive picture of life at her branch and tells us how much she values the family culture that is promoted at Benchmarx. A great example of how this inclusive environment helps Louise in her work is the collaboration it enables between Kitchen Designers and Joiners. Louise tells us that they work together right from the start of the process; this shared perspective helps them overcome any obstacles in the project and allows them to create special designs that result in bespoke kitchens.
“Benchmarx gives me a great work-life balance”
Where Louise has always worked in retail she really values any time that she gets off to spend with her loved ones. At Benchmarx we have understand this and our strong family values guide everything that we do. Louise explains that the culture we foster at Benchmarx gives her the opportunity to do what she loves every day and there’s the added bonus of having a great product to work with.
“Don't think twice about becoming a part of the Benchmarx team”
Louise confirms that everyone is made to feel part of the team and welcome right from the start. She explains that although Benchmarx is part of a huge organisation there is a noticeable family culture within the branches.
